Trash Polka Tattoos designs were born out of hyper-realistic and surreal tattoos. This super cool style is attributed to German tattoo artists Simone Pfaaf and Volker Merschke. The tattoo style was created in 1998 and has been very popular ever since.
The thrash polka design differs from hyperrealism in that it is not limited to a 2D version of the components. The artists pay a lot of attention to 3D texturing, coloring black spaces and applying sharp strokes to geometric or abstract shapes in the design.
Although thrash polka has been on trend for the past 24 years, it still has a long way to go to gain a worldwide fan base. One reason for its lack of popularity among South American and Canadian culture is that not many tattoo artists can do it. Nevertheless, in European and American subcultures, the trend isn’t going away anytime soon.
